Brooklyn Hotel Boom

Speaking from a hospitality perspective, something marvelous is happening in Brooklyn. A recent hotel boom has brought thoughtful, uniquely designed luxury hotels to Brooklyn for 2016/2017 where, let’s face it, everything is happening anyway. Let’s explore.

Aside from the fact that Brooklyn has long been a beacon of diversity, artistry & community, offering some of the City’s oldest neighborhoods & historical buildings, Brooklyn hotels by and large, have long left a lot to be desired, consisting mainly of budget lodgings in weird locations. Building Boutique Hotels here was previously unthinkable, and Manhattan was/is the borough of hotels. But starting earlier this year, luxury & boutique hotel openings are abound, which could be attributed to the area’s residential surge, or business & restaurant influx, but it is more likely because Brooklyn has become a prime tourist destination, which is evident through the throngs of tourists roaming the streets & clutching maps in Williamsburg, or tour groups walking through Brooklyn Heights. The times, they are a changin’…

The William Vale

First up because it is certainly the most noticeable, it’s large structure sticks out in Williamsburg and is often met with some confusion – “What is that!?” This 21-story mixed-use building offers retail, offices and hotel space with sweeping views on the pool and garden deck. Located on Wythe Avenue and North 12th Street, just up the street from the popular Wythe Hotel, this place is definitely worth checkin gout but it will cost you! Open now:  thewilliamvale.com

The Hoxton

This will be the Williamsburg branch of the London-based brand, also located on Wythe. Once labeled the “no BS” hotel, it should fit in perfectly with Williamsburg. The Perkins Eastman-designed building will stand nine stories tall, and have 50k SF of commercial space. Opening in 2017 thehoxton.com/about

The Williamsburg Hotel

Another one on Wythe Street! The modern-chic, boutique hotel will be an eight-story, 150-room property will have a restaurant, rooftop pool and the neighborhood’s first grand ballroom with capacity for 400. Guests will also have three bars to choose from. Opening 2016  thewilliamsburghotel.com

1 Hotels

Hot on the heels of a successful Manhattan venture, 1 Hotels is looking to conquer another borough. The new 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Park — located right on Brooklyn’s new riverfront park and featuring prime views of the East River, Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline — will focus on nature and sustainability just like its Central Park sibling. The 194 guest rooms will have floor-to-ceiling windows, a farm-to-table restaurant, rooftop bar and lounge. Opening 2016 1hotels.com/brooklyn_bridge
